Learning more about our people: James Lewis, Head of Digital Infrastructure

What do you do at Redgrave?

I am a Senior Partner leading Redgrave’s Digital Infrastructure Practice, and I’m now in my 13th year with the firm.

What do you most enjoy about your job?

It might sound a bit cliché, but the best part about my job is the opportunity to help influence people in their career choices and shape company outcomes. Working at Redgrave makes this even more enjoyable because I get to work with a fabulous team who are fun, ambitious and want others to succeed – whether it be their colleagues who sit around them or our clients and candidates.

What was your first job?

My first job was actually in real estate, working for a firm which is now part of the world’s leading real estate consulting business, JLL. It was a great experience as I was lucky enough to work with and learn from some brilliant people.

What are you reading/listening to at the moment?

A current favourite is the podcast, The News Agents, hosted by Emily Maitlis, Jon Sopel and Lewis Goodall. Being three of the UKs top journalists, they examine the day’s news stories, providing a lively and astute analysis of the daily news, with a healthy dose of scepticism and humour thrown in.

Favourite cuisine?

Italian cuisine has to be my favourite, although weirdly I don’t eat pasta. One restaurant that jumps out for me is La Goccia in Covent Garden. It’s the Italian equivalent of tapas and focuses on sustainably sourced ingredients.

What do you do when not at work?

As a father of four children, time away from the office is always very busy. I adore the outdoor life whether that be in the garden, on the banks of a chalk stream river or watching my children perform on the stage or in sport. Having also had the pleasure of attending a live coronation concert at the Royal Albert Hall, I realised just how much I love live performances.

What do you think makes Redgrave special?

Having worked with two other search firms before joining Redgrave, I would honestly say that it’s the culture and team that makes Redgrave particularly special. There’s zero politics, plenty of autonomy and an all-round desire to deliver excellence in everything we do – this is what make it unique.

What is your proudest/best Redgrave moment?

There are many proud moments to choose from, both from our internal achievements, but especially working with clients and candidates. We have an incredible privilege being able to influence and guide clients and candidates to make life-changing decisions. The best moments are where I see someone whom I have placed, thrive and accelerate into being the best version of themselves as a leader in their field.

If you could choose one superpower, what would it be?

To be able to see around corners and visualise what’s coming next.
