Learning more about our people: Madhavi Thanki, Finance Manager

What do you do at Redgrave?

I am responsible for the overall finance function and work closely with our COO James Fitzsimmons.

I have been with Redgrave since August 2010.

What do you most enjoy about your job?

What I enjoy most is the supportive and dynamic environment that my job offers. In particular, it’s great to be surrounded by people who trust me and my ability to get things done without question. Everyday is an opportunity to learn something new too.

What was your first job?

My first job was as an Assistant Accountant, which was a three-year internship while studying for my professional Accountancy qualification.

What are you reading/listening to at the moment?

I am reading Poldark novels at the moment. I love everything that is based on historic concepts and settings. I find it extremely educational in terms of how things were done in the past, and how people used speak and dress – it’s all very fascinating to me especially given I was born and raised in India.

I would 100% recommend it if historic settings interest you.

Favourite cuisine?

Without any questions – Indian. Why – I have always been vegetarian and the flavours and variety that Indian cuisine offers is next to none for vegetarians. Having grown up eating mainly Indian dishes, it has become a habit as well.

What do you do when not at work?

When I am not working, I am mostly with my children, who keep me very entertained. Aside from that, I’m mostly a stay-at-home kind of person who is happy to sit in my garden with a decent book, or watch dystopian dramas – if I get a chance.

What do you think makes Redgrave special?

Redgrave has given me the ability to continue working in a job I love, where I am constantly learning and growing, while at the same time being able to be there for my family. The people I work with are hugely supportive.

What is your proudest/best Redgrave moment?

This might sound a bit cheesy but it’s not one moment in particular – having been at Redgrave for more than a decade, it’s been amazing to see the business evolve and grow every year. It’s truly a business that listens to its employees and wants to keep being a great place to work.

If you could choose one superpower, what would it be?

If I could choose one superpower, that would be an ability to make people change their thinking and make everyone kind – then 90% of the problems from this world would likely disappear.
