Our client, a leading multi-channel retailer, was facing a talent challenge. Their traditional approach of promoting from within had unintentionally created a skills gap in their senior finance team. As a result, a number of roles were filled with under powered talent, and there was a broader lack of fresh perspectives and outside experience in the team. Additionally, there were some concerns about succession planning and diversity.

Our mandate was to help this organisation hire a diverse set of finance leaders who could add technical and commercial expertise to the business, as well as bringing more varied thinking and outside experience.
Leveraging our extensive network across the retail sector and the wider finance community, we built target lists using a blend of forensic market mapping and intensive sourcing. Our understanding of the finance community and where to find hidden talent helped us to build a strong pool of targets – individuals with the calibre, experience and diversity that met our clients’ requirements.

For some specific roles outlined in the brief, we conducted confidential interviews to protect the confidentiality of the positions. These discrete interactions revealed hidden talents, giving our client a distinctive advantage in identifying suitable candidates who were an ideal fit.

Following a rigorous evaluation process, we presented our client with a series of carefully curated shortlists, with candidates with diverse backgrounds and with a variety of skills and experiences. This enabled our client to make informed decisions, aligned with their values and aspirations.
