Shaping the Future of Sustainable Energy

Ushering in leading industry chair in new era of energy transition

A prominent investment consortium acquired a significant stake in a renowned gas transmission company. The goal was not only to run the UK’s leading gas transmission network, but also to be at the forefront of hydrogen development as part of the UK’s future sustainable energy mix.

We were tasked with conducting an international search for an independent non-executive chair with a strong track record in the sector, as well as industry and political connections. The client specifically wanted a high-profile figure who could engage with the UK government at the highest levels, in order to boost their credibility. A key requirement was the ability to manage a medium-term CEO succession process involving a range of candidates, as well as build a new board in a short timeframe.
Understanding the complexity of the challenge, Redgrave embraced a strategic outlook tailored to the clients needs. Balancing industry expertise with political acumen, we conducted an exhaustive Search that extended from the UK to Europe, the United States, and Australia.

Beyond the geographical boundaries, we honed in on diversity and experience in renewables infrastructure. Transparency, close communication, and a deep understanding of the stakeholders were key in making our approach align perfectly with our clients’ corporate vision and cultural values.
The shortlist was diverse, with candidates not only from the sector but also from broader renewables infrastructure backgrounds. The process culminated in the appointment of a seasoned executive with significant industry experience.

Our success did not stop there. We were subsequently asked to assist with two more NED appointments: the chair of the audit committee and the chair of the regulatory committee. Each of these roles required candidates with credible renewable energy credentials and experience, ensuring that our client’s leadership was well-equipped to navigate the intricate landscape of sustainable energy.
