Transforming HR Leadership in a Leading UK Publishing Group

British Publishing Group's DE&I Journey

Our client, a market-leading British publishing group with an expansive eBook portfolio, had a rich network of brands, imprints, and subsidiaries, largely grown through strategic acquisitions.

With a newly promoted CEO with a strong vision for transforming the company, the group required a dynamic Group HR Director to play an integral role in realising the CEO’s ambitions, particularly at a time when the group was facing pressing challenges around gender pay disparities.
Understand the high stakes, we adopted a holistic approach tailored to address the unique challenges faced by our client. Through transparent communication and a deep understanding of the company’s ethos, we identified candidates who seamlessly aligned with the corporate vision, cultural values and progressive DE&I agenda.

Realising the potential of HR as a value-adding function, the role was elevated to the executive committee level, adding another layer to our search criteria.
The chosen candidate not only aligned with the CEO’s ambitious roadmap but also redefined HR’s role within the company, with the function being instrumental in driving both performance and cultural metamorphosis.

Our client has seen exceptional results, exceeding market expectations. Accrediting substantial impact to the newly appointed leader, the CEO highlighted their influence as a pivotal member of the leadership team, driving transformation and creating a winning culture. The new HR director was also instrumental in reducing the gender pay gap by 5% and introducing ethnicity pay gap reporting, demonstrating a commitment to D&I.
